Casson Court show apartment opens for viewing

The look of a new Thorne housing and care scheme tipped for award success has been revealed. Casson Court, was built by Housing & Care 21 in partnership with Doncaster Council and has been designed to offer independent living for people over the age of 55 with access to on-site care for those who need it.

The official opening of the show apartment on Church Street was held with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Thorne Town Mayor, Councilor Susan Durant.

The Court will be Housing & Care 21’s fourth scheme to provide housing and care in the area under its Extra Care offering. It will offer 72 one and two bedroom apartments, with 35 available for rent and 37 for shared ownership. Following the opening of the show apartment, the team at Casson Court will now accept viewings by appointment.

Upon opening, the Court will offer residents a range of services and facilities including a 24 hour, on-site care team for those who need it, a bistro, hair salon and picturesque landscaped gardens.

The £9m site has been funded by Housing & Care 21, together with Doncaster Council and Homes England (formerly the Homes & Communities Agency) and constructed by energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE. It was the relationship with Doncaster Council that helped secure a historic location and unique opportunity for residents to live alongside a piece of local heritage, the Peel Hill Motte, which is located in the Court’s gardens.

Sarah Hames, housing and care manager at Casson Court commented: “We are delighted to open the fantastic show apartment to the community.

“Our Court is purpose built and the apartments are fully-accessible, but with that said we knew that the look and style of the apartments offered was also incredibly important. We are so happy with the final outcome and can’t wait to start welcoming people to come and take a look around,” she concluded.

Nathan Brough, Regional Director for ENGIE’s Places & Communities division, said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in providing much-needed high quality housing for Thorne’s older generation.

“Casson Court is the latest extra care development to have been created as a result of our long-term partnership with Housing & Care 21, which has created bespoke housing solutions for older people over the last twenty years.”
