Helmsley town crier spreads more Christmas cheer
A retired couple preparing to move into their new home were surprised by Helmsley town crier David Hinde at the new Housing & Care 21 development on Ashwood Close last week. After switching on the town’s Christmas lights on Friday, David made his way to the Bransdale View show home to continue his spread of Christmas cheer.
Bransdale View is a new Extra Care scheme, which will provide independent living for people over the age of 55, with access to on-site care for those who need it.
Mr and Mrs Turton, who have already reserved their apartment, had been on-site see the seasonally dressed show home and also to meet the new housing and care manager, Andrea Brazil. The future residents were surprised to hear a knock at the door during their visit, but overjoyed to see that it was the Helmsley town crier waiting to spread some more Christmas cheer.
Andrea said: “We were so happy to welcome the town crier into our show home! It was perfectly timed as Mr and Mrs Turton were here to take a look how we’d dressed the home for Christmas when David appeared at the door. It was lovely for him to pop by and spread some more Christmas cheer!
“This year, we are donating £1 to the Helmsley Christmas lights fund for every viewing booked at Bransdale View before Christmas to ensure festive cheer can be spread in the town again in 2019. These kinds of events are so important for bringing the community together – there’s no way we could stand by and not make a contribution!”
David Hinde, Helmsley’s town crier, said: “The Christmas light switch on, which was followed by the preview evening of Helmsley’s annual Christmas tree festival, is always a great start to the festive season. We also had a lot of fun on Small Business Saturday – so it really was a weekend of festivities for everyone!
“When I heard about Bransdale View’s donation to the lights fund, I just had to stop by and see the new scheme for myself. It was also a bonus to meet the lovely Mr and Mrs Turton who will be moving in early next year!”
Katie Atkinson, deputy chair of Helmsley in Business and owner of KVA Planning, said: “We’d like to pass on our gratitude to Housing & Care 21 for their kind donation to the Helmsley Christmas lights fund. Over the last six years, Helmsley in Business has raised over £10,000 to make sure Helmsley shines brightly during the festive season. It’s fantastic that local organisations and residents in the town can work together to make every Christmas the best ever - it sums up the wonderful community spirit here!”
