The ‘Live Active’ award recognises the courts at Housing & Care 21 that offer a range of opportunities to be active and socially engaged.
Peacock Close in Hornchurch was nominated for its full programme of events and activities, which are sometimes planned a year in advance. They include regular weekly activities such as coffee mornings and bingo, as well as monthly events including entertainers, BBQs and external activities. Many of the residents belong to the Social Club which arranges engagements.
The nomination explained: “The Social Club was successful in gaining a Lottery Grant and has purchased a number of items, such as darts, indoor and outdoor games and other items. This means that we can hold tournaments and competitions and encourage playing against other local courts.
“The Social Club also organises lunches, trips out, an annual garden party, Christmas and New Year events and helps to celebrate residents’ birthdays and anniversaries and so on.
“The Court Manager encourages a lively court and supports any activities which take place. There’s so much going on and available to the residents, their families and guests – this is most certainly a ‘lively court’ in which to live!”
