Gerry Lewington was nominated for our Good Neighbours Award this year at the Spirit of Housing & Care 21 Awards. Gerry is a resident at Attley Court in Wellingborough. Gerry was nominated by fellow resident Mary (also pictured) for a number of things, including supporting other residents with heavy work at their allotment, as well as building sheds and greenhouses.
This support means that residents can all benefit from the fruit and vegetables produced, which generates funds for the allotment and gardens at the scheme. He also does odd jobs, such as painting benches and seats, and sweeping leaves.
“He supports other residents to go to the doctor, hospital or chemist,” Mary said, “ and he is always keen to help everyone but refuses to take any credit for the work he does. He has even been seen with his head in the bonnet of residents’ cars or changing tyres for them. He rarely rests or takes time out for himself.”
Martin Sawers, court manager, said: “Gerry has been at Attley Court for 4 years now and has been a great asset to the Court… He is liked by all residents and even the longest serving scheme cat, George, loves to get a cuddle from Gerry. George follows Gerry around the Court wherever he goes.”
