Kathleen's view

King Edward Court resident Kathleen shares her thoughts on life at the scheme:

"My name is Kathleen and I live in King Edward Court, King Edward Avenue, Herne Bay.

Since moving into the court my life has completely changed. I have been unwell for a very long time with end changes of COPD and bleeds into my lungs.

At my last address before moving into the court I was unhappy and very depressed which like most mental health issues I was the last person to realise that anything was wrong. I basically felt at the time that I was just waiting to die and had nothing left to live for.

Since moving into the court my life has completely changed as have my attitudes. No longer is this just the address I live at, it's now my home.

Within the court we have many activities and the residents are wonderful and very welcoming. I will forever owe my thanks to Annie the court manager; she was the one who made sure that the court became my home. Annie's very dedicated to the court and its residents; she treats the role much more as a vocation than an occupation, frequently working outside normal hours to run special events.

Annie has always been there for me from the very beginning and every step of the way. I know I can go and talk to her at any time whenever I need help and she always gives me a hug when I so desperately need it.

Before I moved into the court I was very depressed, however since moving here and with Annie's help I now enjoy life to the full and it's given me a reason to live and enjoy living."
