New Extra Care scheme launches in Thorne!

A new Extra Care scheme, named Casson Court, has launched in Thorne, Doncaster, offering specialist housing with on-site care and support.

Casson Court, named after late historian William Casson, is located within Thorne’s medieval village, and within the gardens lies Peel Hill Motte, part of Peel Hill Castle which dates back to before 1100. The property’s location offers those over the age of 55 a unique opportunity to live alongside a piece of local heritage.

The Court, which is Housing & Care 21’s fourth Extra Care scheme in the area, offers 72 one and two bedroomed apartments, with 35 apartments for affordable rent and 37 apartments for affordable shared ownership.

Casson Court is specifically designed to offer independent living with access to care for those who need it. The Court also offers a range of services and facilities including a 24 hour, on-site care team, a bistro, hair salon and picturesque landscaped gardens.

Sarah Hames, Housing and Care Manager at Casson Court hosted a launch event on 14 June with over 120 registered attendees. Speaking at the launch Sarah said: “We wanted to launch a scheme that would be a real asset to the community in Thorne. In addition to providing expertly designed apartments and a safe and secure environment for residents, the scheme has potential to grow into a community hub.

“I’m delighted to be part of such an exciting new development. Casson Court will offer local people the opportunity to experience a new way of living, being part of a community, enjoying great facilities and the peace of mind and security, which our Extra Care offering brings.”

The £9m site has been funded by Housing & Care 21, together with Doncaster Council and Homes England (formerly the Homes & Communities Agency). It was the relationship with Doncaster Council that helped secure the new Extra Care community’s historic location.

Cllr Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, said: “I am delighted this important housing development in Thorne has launched. It has been a real partnership effort between the council and Housing & Care 21. This scheme will provide our older people with high quality affordable homes that also benefit from specialist on-site care and support. This will mean they can live independently for longer. We are fully committed to providing a wide range of homes which suit the needs, budgets and personal circumstances of our residents.”

Siobhan Moore, Head of Property Development at Housing & Care 21 commented: “The launch of Casson Court is an important milestone in the development of this new Extra Care community, our fourth scheme in Doncaster. The scheme will provide much needed affordable homes for older people in the area, with on-site, tailored care and support packages available to help residents live independently for as long as possible.”

Casson Court will open its show apartment to the public in August. Those interested in finding out more in advance are invited to attend an open day on 4th July from 10am to 4pm at sister site, Swallowdale on Jubilee Close in Edlington.
