Residents hold party to celebrate Fitzwalter Court refurbishment
Residents at Fitzwalter Court, a Retirement Housing scheme in Dover, recently held a party to celebrate its grand reopening after a major £450,000 refurbishment.
Mayor of Dover Councillor Neil Rix was the guest of honour for the event.
Court Manager Debbie Holley said: “We have had a lot of work done here and the residents have been very patient and understanding, so it was nice to hold a little party to say thank you.
“The communal lounge is one of the areas that has been refurbished and we wanted to keep the end result as a surprise so it was cordoned off and kept under wraps.
“Residents only saw it when it was unveiled as part of the grand reopening. They all seem very happy with the new look, and with the work done to update their flats.
“It's a lovely community here and it is brilliant to see how the investment in the refurbishment is helping people enjoy their retirement.”
Work carried out at Fitzwalter Court in Sheridan Road includes installation of new open plan kitchens complete with new appliances, as well as high-spec bathrooms with low-level shower facilities in all the flats. The communal lounge has been redecorated and new furniture provided. There is a new communal kitchen and an office for the Court Manager. Other communal spaces including corridors, laundry room, a guest room and an on-site hair salon have also been updated and modernised.
Two other Housing & Care 21 schemes in Dover are also undergoing improvement work - Charles Lister Court and Trefor Jones Court.
