Residents raise £1,000 for new cancer unit
Residents at a housing scheme in Chesterfield have raised £1,000 for a new Macmillan Cancer Centre at The Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
The social committee at Goodman Court, a retirement housing scheme in Calow, arranged everything from cream teas to barbecues and raffles and raised the impressive total in less than a year.
The funds will go towards the building of a new £9million Macmillan Cancer Centre at the hospital which is aimed a transforming cancer services for people in the area.
Rob Turner, Macmillan Cancer Support, visited the court to collect the funds.
Goodman Court Manager, Claire Redfern, said: “The residents have done brilliantly to raise such a fantastic total in such a short space of time.
“This is a fantastic cause and one which will really benefit the area so we are delighted to be able to make a contribution.”
Goodman Court is a retirement housing scheme featuring 41 flats. Resident enjoy a calendar of regular social activities.
