Strong financial performance in 2014/15

Housing & Care 21 reported a strong financial performance in 2014/15, including the delivery of a substantial development programme and increased operating margins and surpluses.

We have now published our Financial Statements for 2014/15, and a report on how we place Value for Money at the heart of our activities.

Chief Executive Bruce Moore said: “I would like to thank everyone who has helped Housing & Care 21 make such great progress. We are very fortunate to have so many talented and committed staff and to have had support from our residents, clients, commissioners and business partners.”

Achievements in 2014/15 included:

  • Delivering a substantial programme of 1,131 new Extra Care properties

  • Improving the quality and compliance of care services with CQC standards

  • Improved financial results with increased operating margins and surpluses

  • Recognition for fully meeting the regulatory standards set by the Homes and Communities Agency for Governance and Viability

  • Operating surplus of £28.8m generated

  • Restructuring the organisation to focus on the three core services of Retirement Housing, Extra Care and Home Care.

  • Completing the disposal of non-core subsidiary companies and undertakings

  • Completing the move to a new head office in Birmingham

The Value for Money report sets out how this is a core principle at the heart of our strategic and operational decision making. It looks at five key areas: customer engagement; employee engagement; operational performance; cost improvements and return on assets. It also sets out key objectives for 2015/16.

Mr Moore added that although the results set out in the two reports were pleasing, there was still more to be done as the organisation continued to improve its performance in order to meet the challenges ahead and strive to achieve its ambition of being the leading provider of housing and care services for older people.
