Housing & Care 21 residents and staff raise over £60,000 for Macmillan

Since October 2013 Housing & Care 21 has raised more than £60,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

Our residents and staff have organised everything from sponsored walks and fancy dress to coffee mornings and summer fêtes to bring in the impressive total for our official charity partner.

One staff member, retirement housing manager Martin Sawers, has raised nearly £3,000 after setting himself the task of completing 25 separate challenges, including everything from abseils to eating challenges, in memory of his dad Daniel who died of cancer.

Chief Executive Bruce Moore said: “We are delighted to have raised such a fantastic total for what is an incredibly worthy cause.

“The credit must go to our residents and staff who have put in a tremendous amount of effort since we chose Macmillan Cancer Support as our official charity partner.

“This work will continue and we are already looking forward to taking part in the Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September to help bring in even more to help support the fantastic work that the organisation does.”

The money will be used to help fund Macmillan’s vital cancer services, including specialist nurses working throughout the NHS, a nurse-run support line and grants for cancer patients experiencing financial problems.

Macmillan’s ‎regional corporate account manager, Rhys Parker, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the partnership and we would like to thank Housing & Care 21 for choosing to support us. The money they have raised could pay for a Macmillan nurse for more than a year, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

“No one should have to face cancer alone and with support like this, they won’t have to. This money will go a long way to helping us be there for people with cancer and their families. We are looking forward to continuing to work with the residents and staff to build on our success so far.”
