Bungalow on show at Swallowdale
A show home is now open at an exciting new £6.4 million Extra Care scheme for older people in Doncaster.
The Swallowdale development, in Jubilee Close, Edlington, will provide 64 two bedroom apartments and two bungalows. The development will also provide residents with a communal lounge, restaurant, hair salon and laundry room.
People can now see what is on offer for themselves with the opening of a show bungalow. The show home was officially opened by Councillor Chris Mills, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Housing and Adult Services.
She was joined by representatives of Housing & Care 21, developers Keepmoat and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to celebrate the milestone for the scheme.
Cllr Mills said: “Doncaster Council is committed to looking after our older and more vulnerable residents and that is why we provided the land and a £450,000 Section 106 contribution for this Extra Care housing scheme.
“I was delighted to official open this show bungalow and see the fantastic new homes that will be available for local people. Extra Care schemes are one of many innovative ways in which the council is investing in services for older people.”
Kris Peach, Housing & Care 21’s Director of Extra Care, said: “We’re delighted to reach this key milestone for Swallowdale.
“Extra care is an increasingly popular choice for older people wishing to remain independent in their own homes with the reassurance that care and support services are available on site.
“I would encourage anyone interested to come along and see the show home for themselves.”
Martin Smithurst, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat, said: “It’s great to see our brand new show home officially unveiled to the public by Councillor Chris Mills.
“This exciting scheme will create much needed new homes for older people in the area. We are very pleased to be working with our partners to help transform their vision for Edlington into reality.”
Swallowdale is being built by a partnership of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Housing & Care21 and Keepmoat. The development is supported with investment from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Due for completion in March, apartments will be available for rent or shared ownership sale, and the two bungalows for shared ownership sale. The show bungalow was officially opened on Thursday, February 5.
Extra Care housing promotes independent living for older people by providing self-contained, private accommodation, with 24 hours support and care services available on site if needed. On site support services can include meal preparation, personal care and help with shopping, housework and laundry.
