Residents prove they are blooming marvellous in garden comp
Green-fingered residents in Oldham showed they are blooming marvellous as they took part in our annual gardening competition.
The contest was run across all of our housing schemes in the borough and attracted more than 40 entries.
Janet and James Cowan (pictured), who live in Elizabeth Grove, scooped the prize for best garden, while Millgate, a retirement scheme on Hollins Road, won the best court prize and Rod and Kathleen Turner won the award for best container.
Bridget Guilfoyle, our project director in Oldham, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enter what is becoming an increasingly popular competition.
“The standard of entries was incredibly high with some really bright, beautiful and inventive gardens. Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who took part.”
Karen Simpson, court manager at Millgate, said: ““I am so proud of my residents here at Millgate. They have all worked extremely hard to create these beautiful gardens that are admired by people visiting the health centre and passing by.”
Barry Curran, the community ambassador for Cruden Property Services, our repairs and maintenance contractor in Oldham, judged the competition.
He said: “I was absolutely amazed at the standard of entries. It’s clear the residents take a lot of pride in the heir gardens and have worked very hard. The attention to detail was amazing, resulting in many outstanding entries. It was a pleasure to play a part.”
