Webb Ellis Court show flat opens

An older people’s extra care housing scheme on Pettiver Crescent has opened its show flat to the public, at an official ceremony on Friday 21 November.

Representatives from Housing & Care 21, Warwickshire County Council, Rugby Borough Council, and contractor Wilmott Dixon joined Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Cllr Kathryn Lawrence and Cllr Jose Compton, who cut the ribbon at Webb Ellis Court.

The £7.2m development, with part funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, will provide high quality housing and care services to older people in Rugby. At extra care schemes, people can live independently in their own apartments, with access to a care service if or when needed. The support could be personal care or help with domestic tasks such as shopping or cleaning.

The scheme also has a range of facilities including a restaurant, lounge, hair salon, wellbeing suite and a guest suite for friends and family to stay.

Housing & Care 21 is inviting the public to visit the show flat, which will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10–3pm.

Kris Peach, regional director at Housing & Care 21, said: “We are delighted with the progress of this development which will provide an extremely valuable housing service for older people.

The accessibility and security of a care service on site, available if needed, works well alongside the privacy and independence people have in their own homes. Then the communal facilities give people a shared space where they can socialise or access other services if they want to, altogether providing a great quality of life which everyone deserves in their later years. We are looking forward to welcoming people in the new year.”

Cllr Jose Compton said: “This ceremony publicly and formally acknowledges the collaborative working relationship between Housing and Care 21, their construction partners, Wilmott Dixon, the Homes and Communities Agency, Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council.  I look forward to us all returning for the actual opening ceremony itself in 2015.'”

Cllr Roodhouse said: “We welcome this second scheme in Rugby. The opening of the show flat is a real step forward and will allow local people their first opportunity to see what this extra care housing scheme can offer.”

Webb Ellis Court will have 61 two bedroom apartments available, with 41 for affordable rent and 20 for sale through shared ownership. When purchasing, people can pay 25%, 50%, or 75% of the value.
