Official opening for Sandwell extra care

Sandwell Council Leader, Councillor Darren Cooper, has officially opened a new extra care scheme for older people in Sandwell. Goldfield Court in West Bromwich is the latest extra care scheme to be delivered by
Housing 21, a leading provider of housing, care and health services for older people.

Cllr Cooper was joined for the celebration by residents and members of Housing 21, Sandwell Council and Thomas Vale Construction. After presenting residents with a commemorative plaque, guests enjoyed a tour of
the scheme, which provides 93 one and two bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over.

One of the residents celebrating the opening was 68 year old Roy Womack, who was one of the first to move into Goldfield Court following its completion last year. Commenting on the move Roy said: “This was
definitely the right move for me. I’m still living in the area that I’m familiar with but I now have a lot more company around me. It’s great to have carers on hand to help too.”

Cllr Cooper added: "It's a great honour to officially open this high-quality accommodation, which offers increased choice and independence for local older people as well as new facilities open to the whole

"It's wonderful to hear residents' first-hand accounts of how this scheme, achieved through a true partnership with Housing 21, is benefiting local people's lives."

Apartments at Goldfield Court offer options for affordable rent or shared ownership. The scheme boasts a number of facilities which are accessible to the wider local community, including a restaurant which is
open from 10am to 3pm and a hairdressing salon. The £12.5 million complex, which received £5 million of investment from the Homes and Communities Agency, allows residents to enjoy independent living in
comfortable and well equipped apartments, whilst still having 24 hour care and support on hand, tailored to individual need.

Bruce Moore, Chief Executive of Housing 21 said: “I’m delighted that we have marked the official opening of Goldfield Court. More people are enjoying longer lives and there is going to be an increasing need for
this type of housing. This scheme is an excellent example of how we can enable older people to enjoy independent living with help on hand tailored to individual need.”
