Elderly raise £1K for cancer charity

Big-hearted residents at Westhall Court in Yardley will be presenting Cure Leukaemia with a cheque for £1000 today. The residents at Housing 21’s extra care scheme for older people raised the staggering amount when they held a Christmas Fayre last month.

Tracey Leicester from Cure Leukaemia, who support the work of the Haematology Centre at the University Hospital Birmingham, will join the residents in their coffee morning at 11am today for the formal presentation.

Wendy Flores, Locality Manager for Housing 21 said: “The residents at Westhall Court are delighted to have raised this sum for such a good cause. They put a lot of effort into the fundraising and it’s fantastic to see what they’ve achieved.”

The Christmas Fayre included stalls with handmade cards, gifts, cakes, jewellery, books, soft toys, candles and nail art as well as a tombola and raffle.
