MP visits Ipswich extra care scheme

Residents and staff at Holm Court in Kesgrave recently welcomed a visit by Dr Dan Poulter, MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich. The visit, which was organised by Housing 21, gave Dr Poulter an opportunity to take a look around the scheme and meet with some of the residents.

Holm Court, which was built in 1997, provides 32 extra care apartments for older people. Dr Poulter was able to see the on-site facilities which include a community centre, small shop, restaurant and hairdressing salon, all of which are also available to the wider local community.

Dr Dan Poulter, who is also a member of the Government’s Health Select Committee, said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the staff and guests during my recent visit to Holm Court in Kesgrave. The biggest challenge facing Suffolk in both human and financial terms is better looking after our growing ageing population, and Holm Court is the sort of facility I hope to see much more of in the future, if we are to properly care for our older people”
Extra care housing allows residents to enjoy their own independence but with care and support on hand, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and tailored to individual requirements.

Peter Moston, locality manager for Housing 21 added: “We’re delighted that Dr Poulter has been able to find the time in his busy schedule to visit Holm Court and meet with staff and residents. We’re very proud of Holm Court. It’s a lovely scheme with a lot of activities going on.”
