Lancashire end of life care pilot contract
Housing 21 has been awarded a contract by Lancashire County Council and NHS Central Lancashire to pilot an end of life care service for people across Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The 12 month pilot, which began on 1 July, will see specially trained care staff supporting older people in their own homes as they approach the final stages of their lives.
Housing 21 has been providing support services to older people for over 15 years, including those with palliative needs living in sheltered and extra care housing as well as homecare services. In Lancashire, Housing 21 is already well established as a provider of domiciliary services, extra care contracts, rehabilitation and crisis response services.
Vivien Ziwocha, locality manager for Housing 21 said: “We are very pleased to be working with Lancashire County Council and NHS Central Lancashire on this End of Life pilot. We know that most people would prefer to die peacefully in their own homes and this service will enable those wishes to be fulfilled.”
