Extra care residents hold their own mock torch relay
Enthusiastic residents of seven Housing 21 extra care schemes across Kent are so excited by the forthcoming Olympic Games that they have decided to hold their own sports day celebration, including a mock torch relay.
On Thursday 26th July two residents from Bradstow Court in Broadstairs will make their way by car with a torch made by Age UK to Buckland Court in Dover where they will hand it over for the second leg of its journey. The ‘torch’ will then travel to Herne Bay, Hythe, Ashford, Maidstone and Dartford.
The schemes taking part in the relay are:
- Bradstow Court, Broadstairs
- Buckland Court, Dover
- King Edward Court, Herne Bay
- Summer Court, Hythe
- Joseph Hadlam Court, Ashford
- Tovil Green Court, Maidstone
- Emily Court, Dartford
As well as having a torch relay, the residents and staff of the schemes have also planned a mini-tournament at each scheme with their own version of games including a Zimmer frame slalom, chariot racing (in buggies), egg and spoon race, archery, discus and much more. The events will end with a special ‘medal’ presentation.
