MPs visit Housing 21 courts
Two MPs visited Housing 21 services in their local constituencies on Tuesday (12th April).
Julie Elliot MP for Sunderland dropped in to Robert Wheatman Court in Sunderland, while Ian Mearns MP for Gateshead visited Callendar Court in Gateshead.
Julie was treated to home made scones freshly baked by Marjory Powell at Robert Wheatman Court after a tour round the library, lounges, hairdressers’ and flats that make up the court. She heard about the Residents’ Association’s plans for an Easter extravaganza from Chair Geoffrey Lockwood. Julie has very strong local links to the area and is keen to continue the relationship in the future with visits to parties and events.
Over at Callendar Court, Ian was warmly received by residents and people using the day centre there. Ian has been involved in the provision of extra care services in Gateshead for a long time and knows many of our residents personally. He had a number of ideas for how Callendar could work with other local community groups and even discussed the idea of holding a surgery on the court.
