Housing 21 success in national awards
Housing 21 has scooped four out seven sheltered housing awards in the prestigious Yours Caring Awards 2010. Winton Court extra care scheme in Gateshead won the title of Sheltered Accommodation of the Year and three other Housing 21 sheltered housing schemes in Bristol, the Isle of Wight and Kettering were successful in claiming regional runners up titles.
All four courts were nominated by residents back in July after Yours magazine asked its readers to tell them about their excellent experience of older people’s accommodation, where residents are treated with dignity in a place where they are happy to call home.
Residents had to describe in no more than 300 words what made their sheltered accommodation extra special.
Paul Richards, director of housing services for Housing 21 said: “Housing 21 is delighted that four of our sheltered housing schemes have been successful. We are particularly pleased because this recognition has come about because our residents have taken the trouble to nominate us. We do take pride in the service we provide and clearly that is something that our residents share.”
Residents at Winton Court, which opened in 2003, were presented with a cheque for £500 as well as a celebratory plaque. The prize money will be spent on something nice for the court along with a champagne party.
Housing 21’s other successful courts were Hillside Court in Bristol, Evans Williams Court in the Isle of Wight and Gloucester court in Kettering.
