Good neighbour award winner
A tenant at Lynam Court in Bulwell, Nottingham has been honoured for making Christmas Day a very special one for some of her neighbours. The kind heartedness of Mrs Pat Bestwick, aged 65, who gave up her Christmas Day with family, has won her first prize in Housing 21's Good Neighbour competition.
When Pat learned that some of her neighbours would be spending the day alone, she organised a special day to include a seven course festive lunch, entertainment, evening tea with trifle, plenty of festive drinks and even a 'doggy bag' for her neighbours to go home with.
So touched were her neighbours by her generous and thoughtful gesture that they nominated her for the award. In their nomination, Pat's friends at Lynam Court described their Christmas as being one of the best they'd had for a long time.
Mrs Bestwick was presented with her £200 prize and certificate at Housing 21's National Tenants' Conference in Birmingham. She had no idea that she had been nominated so the award came as a complete surprise. Commenting on her win Pat Bestwick said: "I am overwhelmed by my award and much prefer to give rather than take. I find it is much more enjoyable."
Pushpa Raguvaran, Chief Executive for Housing 21 said: "These awards allow us to recognise and pay tribute to our tenants who go the extra mile for their neighbours. Everyone who was nominated should be congratulated for their acts of kindness."
