Queensridge gets council's thumbs-up

Work is progressing well on a new £12 million housing complex for the over-55s in Sandwell.

Sandwell Council has been working with the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) and Housing 21 to develop the extra care housing scheme in Brandhall, Oldbury.

Council leader Councillor Darren Cooper, cabinet members, councillors and partners inspected progress on the scheme on Thursday, 25 March.

The development, named Queensridge Court by students from Brandhall Primary School,  is part of the council's multi-million pound programme providing extra care housing in Sandwell to enable more independent living for older people.

HCA has invested £6 million in the scheme, with £6 million being made up from a mix of a council contributions and funding secured by Housing 21.

Providing 87 new self-contained apartments for the over-55s, including rented and shared ownership properties, the Queensridge will also have community facilities, including a shop and restaurant.
