Opening of Diamond Court, Worle

Residents, staff and friends of Diamond Court last week gathered to celebrate the official opening of the new extra care scheme for older people in Diamond Batch, Worle.

Residents began to move into the £8 million scheme, which is owned and managed by Housing 21, in July of last year.  Housing 21 bought the new scheme, which was originally constructed by a private developer for outright sale, with the assistance of a £4.6 million investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and £100,000 from North Somerset Council.

Diamond Court provides 53 one and two bedroom self-contained apartments for rent. Communal facilities, which are also open to the local community include:

  • hairdressing salon
  • residents' lounge
  • roof terrace
  • library

Among the thoughtful design features are anti-scaled taps, anti-slip flooring and electric sockets at easy-to-reach heights.

Paul Richards, director of housing services for Housing 21 said: "Diamond Court is an excellent example of how older people can live independently in a safe and comfortable environment. It is a delight to see what a difference extra care schemes can make, not only to the lives of the people who reside in them but also to the local community who have access to the many facilities on site."
