Tenants open up new shop

Six enterprising ladies at Tandle View Court in Rochdale Road, Royton have opened a shop at the scheme to raise funds for tenant activities.

'New To You at Tandle View' is well stocked with a variety of nearly new items that have been donated by the local community.  Clothes for all ages, books, ornaments, toys, jigsaw puzzles, handbags, shoes and videos are just some of the items that can be found in the shop. Proceeds from the sales will be ploughed back into the residents' association and used to fund parties or events and day trips.

The space was originally intended to be used for general provisions but would have been in direct competition with other nearby shops. Using the shop in this way brings benefits for the tenants as well as creating strong community links.

The ladies behind the idea are Patricia McGuigan, Doreen Seymour, Dorothy Hilton, Sybil Hague, Isabella Mckenna and Ivy Taylor. In recent weeks they have been very busy getting the shop ready for business.

Commenting on the new venture, Patricia McGuigan said: "It is very exciting for us and has certainly taken up a lot of our time. We are very pleased with the support we've had and would like to thank all those who have kindly donated items to us."

Tandle View Court, which opened in June, provides 59 extra care apartments for older people and is part of the PFI partnership between Oldham Council, leading older people's housing provider Housing 21 and Bullock Construction.
