Data Protection Compliance
The Data Protection Act 1998 (‘the Act’) came into force on the 1 March 2000. The Act is set to be replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on the 25 May 2018. The Act governs the collection, retention, use and transmission of information about living, identifiable individuals. It also enables individuals to gain access to data which may be held and processed in their name. The Act covers both electronic and manual (paper based) personal information.
Housing and Care 21 will be open and transparent when processing and using private and confidential information by ensuring we follow the data protection principles of information handling. Housing and Care 21 will only share information in accordance with the provisions set out in the data protection regulation. Where appropriate Housing and Care 21 will inform individuals of the identity of third parties to whom we may share, disclose or be required to pass information onto, whilst accounting for any exemptions which may apply under the Act.
As part of its obligation, Housing and Care 21, on an annual basis, informs the data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) of the:
- purposes for which personal information is processed
- types of individuals who are the subject of the data (data subjects)
- types of data being processed (data classes),
- individuals or organisations to which we may disclose data to and;
- Countries (if any) to which, the data may be transferred
